BNRRN Project Updates

Working Together - Enabling BAMER Participation

Black Neighbourhood Renewal and Regeneration Network (BNRRN) has a new and exciting five year project called ‘Working Together-Enabling BAMER Participation’

What does the project aim to do?

The project will support Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic and Refugee (BAMER) organisations (in Enfield and Lambeth for the next 6 months ) to engage in local decision making partnerships and regeneration initiatives, what we call civic partnerhsips.

BAMER organisations need to be empowered to voice the needs of their communities to decision makers but the time, knowledge and resources it takes to plan, oversee and maintain civic partnerships can put many off. BNRRN has found that BAMER organisations need support to break down these barriers before they can engage in local partnerships effectively.

This project will provide the support that is needed so that organisations are able to voice the needs of their communities and help shape local policy and service delivery.

What kind of support can organisations expect?

BNRRN is taking a collaborative approach to delivery and we will work with organisations on a one to one basis to:

v Identify the barriers they face in engaging with key decision making partnerships in their borough

v Identify the partnerships they want to get involved in and which are most relevant to their communities needs

v Raise awareness of the different partnerships that exist in the borough and how these function

v Develop an action plan that states how engagement will be achieved and how the barriers to engagement are to be tackled

v Provide and support volunteers who will develop the civic engagement agenda for the organisation

v Identify the training needs of organisations around civic engagement and if possible provide the training or seek out relevant training available

v Identify BAMER organisations that have successfully maintained involvement in local partnerships and learn how they achieved it
